Hello New Year

Wow, 2017 went by in a flash. I don't know if it's because I was busy (although I didn't really feel that busy), or if it's come to that point in my life where years are just going to go by faster and faster. The first few months were spent working like a crazy person two interior design projects. I then kind of fell off the radar and struggled a lot for the rest of the year with some long standing mental health issues. My nephew turned 1, Harry passed his driving test and I made a bad hair decision that I'm still growing out (whoops). My mum got married, we visited Hastings a few times, my dad opened his own shop repairing and selling watches & jewellery (where I work part time) and we visited The peaceful Dunwich beach several times. I honestly think it's turned in to one of my favourite places. I turned 27, took up running, gave up running (lol), my friend Emily got married and I bought my dream camera after years of saving. I left my job as an interior designer and, somehow, managed to find the strength to actually complete my New Years resolution of doing all of the physical and mental health related things that I had been putting off for many years. It was a huge deal for me, and I'm actually pretty proud of myself for going through it all. Everything is slowly getting back on track, and in December I even got three illustration commissions - so let's hope that carries on this year!

In 2018 I'd like to get my portfolio/blog combo up and running, blog more regularly, and I have set myself a little challenge of doing monthly every day photo challenges. I'd also like to shop more ethically, get some more illustration/photography work and become a little more emotionally available to the people in my life. It's all started off pretty positively - Harry and I hosted a New Year's Eve dinner for a few of our friends, we wandered around Southwold and squealed about all the puppies on the beach on New Year's Day and got soaked in the rain, and now we're in Hastings... getting soaked by more rain!

Dunwich Beach & Heath

Dunwich beach & heath is turning in to one of my favourite places this summer. We've been on 3 occasions in the last 3 months and it just gets more and more beautiful. Of course we, the hermits, decided to go on the hottest bank holiday Monday of the year. IT WAS SO BUSY and I usually would have hated it, but once I was in my own bubble (beach towel = bubble on this occasion) I was fine. It was definitely tinged with a slight sadness that it felt like the end of summer, but I'm hoping we will have one more day of warm sunshine so we can go again (fingers crossed). beach days 2

Some Current Favourites

Harry and I visited London last month and found Boxpark in Shoreditch; a block of buildings with small shops, cafes and restaurants. We originally went because Harry has been desperate to try Voodoo Ray's for years, but also found that the shops there are AMAZING! I had drooled over Papersmiths website on many an occasion, so when I walked past it I did a double take, squeaked and proceeded to float around the shop as if I was dreaming. I came out with some Koh-I-Noor pencils and an orange tote bag with "Rock Paper Scissors" printed on the front. I've been using it non stop as my everyday bag, and my sketchbook fits perfectly in the front pocket. Yes!

Now that Harry can drive we've been taking silly trips to places like Ikea purely because we weren't able to before. My mission for the past few months has been to buy a Monstera Deliciosa (clearly so I can live out my Instagram apartment dreams HA), and when I found out that Ikea sell them, we were straight in the car and on our way! We spent an embarrassing amount of money, as you always seem to end up doing in Ikea, but came out with the important stuff - The monstera, and those chocolate layered crisp cookies that I HAVE to buy every time I'm there.

I've had an Apple Watch for a little while now, and its managing to get me off my bum and go running a couple of times a week! I'm still finding it weird and a bit clunky looking on my little wrist, but its definitely making me more active.

Finally, my new baby, the Fujifilm X-T2. My previous post went in to more detail about it so I won't go in to it too much here, but I am seriously in love with it. I had been Saving up for a new camera for over a year now, and it felt super weird finally using that money to buy it, but its so good to finally have a camera that I can say I am 100% happy with and can see myself using for years and years to come!

Thats it for my current favourites! As soon as I notice I'm lovin' on a handful of things I'll be sure to do another one. Do you have/ have you tried any of these? What are you loving right now? Let me know in the comments! ♥

P.S: I have an Instagram account that features just my sketchbook pages, processes and finished pieces; check it out here - My other Instagram is going to be a bit more photo-based, with the occasionally photographed finished illustration piece dotted around.

Lick of Life: May

Well, I didn't quite stick to my "take my camera out everyday" aim, but I definitely used it a lot more in May than I usually would. I also picked up my Canon AE-1 and shot some film! I then proceeded to torture myself and watch lots of youtube videos on medium format photography and now I want Mamiya 7, though. Oops. May consisted of walks in the sunshine with Milo, taking photos of flowers, a little trip to Brighton (covered in this post), seeing friends & taking photos for/helping set up my dads new watch shop. As always, after trying out a few different brands, I went back to my trusty Korres. This time I bought the Wild Rose exfoliating face wash and the Almond and Linseed hair mask. Korres products always smell sooooo goooood.

And thats it for my miscellaneous May photos! What did you get up to? Do you have any interesting summer plans for June? I'm hoping to be able to visit a beach, and my birthday is coming up, too.
